"How massage therapy has benefited our son with autism:
We originally brought massage therapy into our repertoire of therapies for our son to help combat aggressive behavior. “Anything might help; and it can’t hurt!” was the mantra given to us by our son’s psychiatrist, so she wrote a script, and we plunged ahead, hopeful that, as she said, “anything might help!”
Our son sees Carolyn once a week, right after school, for one hour, for massage therapy. He gets off the school bus, after an incredibly long (over 1.5 hours!) bus ride home. Many days, the bus ride is problematic: since there are 3 or 4 kids with autism on the bus, the vocalizations, especially, can be very intense! The behaviors resulting from that, even more so! I can say that there have been several occasions when Carolyn has been able to bring our son “back to baseline” (so-to-speak!) in the short term after this mammoth bus ride. I would also say that the intangible, or longer-term effects of massage therapy, however, are what are more striking to me.
Sometimes, we get into an aggressive episode with our son, and Carolyn isn’t here! I have noticed that we are now able to add calming touch to our “bag of tricks” to calm him down. Prior to massage, our son’s sensory defensiveness was such that we had difficulty using touch to help him calm himself. Now, I am able to massage his scalp (who wouldn’t love that?!), and rub his arms or his back to help with alleviating his aggression. This is a big improvement over “pre-massage” days when we would have
difficulty using touch to calm our son.
I would highly recommend massage for your special kid! It’s a great adjunct to the other therapies you’re most likely doing for him or her. It benefits in tangible and numerous intangible ways."

"Carolyn Marker has been my daughter’s massage therapist for 20years. Erin is 32 years old; she has Cerebral Palsy. Erin spends the majority of her waking hours in her wheelchair. By the end of the day, her muscles are tight and her range of motion is diminished because her body has been in the same position for several hours at a time. Through massage, Carolyn is able to increase Erin’s flexibility, improve her circulation, and soothe Erin’s aches and pains in a way that enables her to fully relax; a true gift for my daughter. Aside from the obvious physical benefits, massage has emotional benefits. The gift of human touch delivered in a slow and purposeful way relieves my daughter’s spasms and discomfort and has a calms Erin in so many different ways"

"Carolyn Marker has been working with my daughter Cynthia since 2014 once a week. Cynthia is very relaxed every therapy session that Carolyn gives her. I have noticed that she is sleeping better at night, is less tense, more flexible and is one of Cynthia’s favorite therapy session. Carolyn is good at her job and throughout the years she has shown time and time again that she is a good reliable person as well. She is respectful has integrity does not show any kind of bias towards our culture and/or our family.
I recommend Carolyn to anyone that is looking into getting services by her. "
